I am used to the Utah Bankers Association referring to credit union folks as Marxists, so it was refreshing to have the latest credit union "expert" change the pace and link us with the AARP and illegal immigrants. (Readers' Forum, T.G. "Bud" Mahas, Jan. 12).
Mahas asserted that credit unions "deal outside the law."
My experience tells me that legislatures make laws that are made into rules and regulations which are enforced by regulators, either appointed by the governor or the president. Utah credit unions abide by those laws and regulations. When state or federal regulators allow for change, credit unions react. Credit unions are highly regulated and must work within the laws, rules and regulations that govern them. To assert otherwise is to ignore the role of the regulator.
