If we had the opportunity to fight terrorism right here in Utah, would we do so? If terrorists attacked the residents of our state, would we not expect them to be charged as terrorists, rather than just common criminals? Would we demand they receive a harsher penalty for their acts?
Our state Legislature has the opportunity to combat terrorism by approving House Bill 50, also known as the "Hate Crimes" bill. Just as those behind the atrocities of 9/11 intended to terrorize and victimize all Americans/Westerners, "hate crime" perpetrators do not intend to harm only their immediate victims but all persons possessing the hated attribute. The intent and effect is widespread terrorism.
