CEDAR CITY (AP) — Former Iron County Care and Share executive director Veronica Garner-Wilson has been sentenced to 20 days in the Iron County Jail and fined $1,000 for theft and forgery.
Garner-Wilson pleaded guilty to the felony charges in November and paid $47,815 restitution.
Authorities said she took the money from the food-bank charity out of an account set up to receive sales tax refunds from the state on donated food.
The agency is seeking an additional $4,000 to cover the costs of an audit.
Chief Deputy County Attorney Troy Little asked that the issue of restitution remain open for 60 days to determine any additional auditing costs, and 5th District Judge G. Michael Westfall agreed at the sentencing this past week.
"My intention is that Iron County Care and Share be made whole," Westfall said.
