Jim G. Colovos "Papou" Jim G. Colovos passed away Friday, October 28, 2005 due to illnesses related to age. He was born August 5, 1923 in Magna, Utah as the second son of immigrant parents Gust G. Colovos and May Kakkos Colovos both of Omvriaki, Greece who preceded him in death, as did his brother, George, killed in World War II. Jim married Bessie Poulos, May 10, 1953. She preceded him in death July 7, 1989. Together they had five children, Toni Mae (Joseph A.) Dwyer, Chrissie (Bruce, deceased) Taylor, Gus J. (Kathy Steffensen), Georgene, Joann (Michael J.) Katsanevas; and seven grandchildren, Eleni, Kristen, Bridget, James, Madeline, Dimitri and Anthony. On September 22, 1997, he married Betty Marlor Jones and was honored to become the stepfather to Betty's children, Steve (Margaret), Lewis (Nancy), Brian (Christy), Janeen (deceased), Howard (Carmen), and Clint (Camille), and their families. He attended Cyprus High School and the University of Utah. He served in World War II. He worked his entire career at the Salt Lake office of Kennecott Copper Corporation. He had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge which he willingly shared with all (over and over again). His family would like to express their gratitude to West Valley's Rocky Mountain Care Center. He left the world having given society more than he took from it. In keeping with his generosity of spirit, he has donated his body to science. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the U of U's Body Donor Program (581-6728). A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
