Obituary: Vera Josephine Benton Smith Huffman

Vera Josephine Benton Smith Huffman 1912 ~ 2005 Vera passed away in Mesquite, Nevada at the home of her daughter, Barbara on October 29, 2005. She was born on April 29, 1912 to Hazel Smith and Frank Benton, Jr. After the death of their mother, Vera, her sister, Ruth, and brother, Edwin, were adopted by their maternal grandparents, Isaac S. and Mary W. Smith. Vera graduated from Greeley Teachers Collage in Greeley, Colorado. She taught school in Colorado until her marriage to Jacob Beam Huffman and the starting of her family. Vera was an active leader in Cub Scouting and Camp Fire Girls. She worked as a substitute teacher in Granite School District, was active in the Republican Party, and served as an election judge for many years. Vera was also an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Kearns, NARFE, Navy Mother's Club, and Utah Nature Study Society. Vera is survived by her brother, Edwin Smith of Del Mar, CA; two sons, John and Ethel Huffman of Lexington, TN; Charles and Carol Ann Huffman of East Providence, RI; two daughters, Judith Norton of Kamas, UT; Barbara Stevens of Mesquite, NV; nine grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jake; a sister, Ruth, and two grandchildren, Richard Stevens and Suzanne Huffman. A memorial service will be held Thursday, Nov. 3, 2005 at 11 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church in Kearns, Utah. Interment will at Linn Grove Cemetery in Greeley, Colorado.
