Obituary: Que H. Christensen

Que H. Christensen 1919 ~ 2005 Que H. Christensen, age 86, passed away, unexpectedly, at his home on November 6, 2005. He was born May 10, 1919 in Mayfield, Utah to Clinton Hyrum and Alice E. Whitlock Christensen. He graduated from Manti High School in 1937. After graduation, he attended Snow College and Utah State University. As a young man he enlisted in the National Guard, completed Officers Candidate School, and served four years active duty as part of the 145th Field Artillery in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. Que was honorably discharged from the service in 1946. He continued his military service in the Army Reserve and retired a Lieutenant Colonel in 1979. While in the service he married his high school sweetheart, Elma Hall. They were married on December 30, 1942. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Temple. Que was an active member of the LDS church and faithfully served in various church callings. He loved singing in the ward choir. For the past seven years he attended church with Elma at the nursing home branch. Upon completion of active duty, Que and Elma made their home in Manti, Utah, where Que began his career with the State of Utah at the Department of Employment Security. Later he was transferred to Salt Lake City. After 40 years of loyal service, he retired as one of its directors. His children, unfamiliar with his job responsibilities, referred to him as the "President of the Unemployed." Que's greatest joy was his wife and family. He loved spending time with them; when the children and the grandchildren would visit, he always made sure that they had a bowl of ice cream before they went home. He supported his family by attending countless sporting events, school activities and recitals. For the past 10 years, Que had cared for his ailing wife. He visited her daily at the nursing home. His faithful service has exemplified unconditional love. Que and Elma enjoyed traveling together. They visited countries throughout the world. Que's hobbies included: gardening, golfing, bowling, and reading. Que had many friends. He would never miss his morning breakfast and golf with his retired buddies. He also enjoyed his association with friends from the "Ho Ho" group. He is survived by his wife, Elma; six children, Karen (Terry) Jensen, Connie (Grant) Palmer, Shirley (Fritjof) Langeland, Joyce (Jim) Fenton, Que (Jan) Christensen, Patti (Vaughn) Walsh; sister Karma J. Allred (Keith) MacKay; 29 grandchildren and 291/2 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Thursday, November 10, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at the Valley View Stake Center, 2245 East 3900 South. A viewing will be held Wednesday evening at Mountain View Mortuary, 3115 East 7800 South, from 6:30-8:00 p.m. and also an hour prior to services at the church. Interment at Mountain View Cemetery.
