SOUTH JORDAN — Employees of South Jordan serve the community; now the city is honoring them for their efforts.
City Manager Rick Horst said the All City Team concept was thought up this past year when city management wanted to acknowledge city employees. "We wanted to recognize those who give 110 percent and show the city that people are going above and beyond the call of duty."
Mayor Kent Money said people don't get adequate recognition for their efforts. "We don't pat people on the back enough. We're just recognizing them (employees) for the wonderful work they've done.
James Wiley, parks department superintendant, said the team is meant to be a motivational thing for the employees, which, in turn, creates better service.
Wiley said team members range from lower end lower-end supervisors to middle management.
"We want to bring attention to all ranks of the city employees," Horst said.
"None of us are perfect, but when we're striving for something better, I think we're on the right course," Money said.
The 10 core values: To astonish the customer, not just to satisfy the customer; only the noncomplacent thrive; actions speak louder than words; the best team polices itself; expectation + ownership = ultimate motivation; employees have to understand the business; build a team of big thinkers; change is the status quo; stay small as you grow; and propagate the culture.
