Taylorsville police were looking Saturday night for a man who allegedly tried to carjack several vehicles.
A van was stopped at the intersection of 6200 South and Redwood Road just after 6 p.m. when the driver noticed a man trying to open the doors of other vehicles also stopped at the traffic light, said Taylorsville police officer Shannon Bennett.
The other vehicles sped away as the man approached, but the van was having mechanical problems, and smoke was coming out from under the hood.
When the man reached the van he tried to pull the door open and ended up pulling out the window that was partially rolled down, Bennett said.
"No words were spoken and no weapon was seen," he said.
The driver of the van was eventually able to get his van moving and get away from the man, who ran off after failing to get inside the vehicle, Bennett said.
