PORTLAND, Ore. — The Weber State football team will have to wait another year for a shot at the Big Sky title after dropping its final conference game of the season on Saturday to Portland State, 39-14.

The Wildcats (5-5, 4-3) gave up 393 yards rushing, including 215 yards and three touchdowns to PSU senior Joe Rubin. It was the final game of the season for Portland State (6-5, 4-3). The Vikings finished the season undefeated at home (5-0).

Weber State will finish up its season with a game at Southern Utah next Saturday.

In a very wet setting, Rubin ripped the Wildcats' defense on runs of 16, 55 and 1 yards. The 215-yard effort was his 10th 100-yard rushing performance of the season and established a school record.

His 55-yard run midway through the third quarter gave the Vikings a 26-7 lead. His 1-yard run came at the start of the fourth quarter to make it 34-7.

PSU racked up 492 yards total offense while limiting the Wildcats to 269 yards. The Viking defense also recorded four interceptions.

WSU quarterback Ian Pizarro was picked off three times and junior backup Shawn Woods was intercepted once. Pizarro finished 10-of-24 passing for 161 yards and one touchdown. The score came when he connected with tight end Drew Dukeshire for a 2-yard pass to cut the Portland State lead to 19-7 before halftime.

Woods replaced Pizarro in the fourth quarter and went 5-for-9 for 81 yards that resulted in a 2-yard plunge by Adrian Conway.

Defensively for the Wildcats, senior safety Dallas Drecksel recorded 11 total tackles and teammate John McBride had 10.
