A federal judge on Thursday sentenced a Park City man to 14 months in prison after he was found with a gun and ammunition while subject to a protective order.
Ulugbek Osborne, 33, was found in violation of a protective order when he broke into the home of his estranged wife June 18. A statement from U.S. Attorney Paul M. Warner says Osborne's vehicle was seen near the woman's home, and several text messages from him were also retrieved.
Following a search of the man's vehicle, police located a fully loaded .32-caliber semiautomatic handgun and ammunition, according to the statement. A box of ammunition and several handgun clips were also found inside Osborne's home.
Osborne then told police he had contacted his estranged wife "out of anger" and told officers "he had passed his breaking point," court documents state.
"While it is impossible to predict what might have happened if the officers hadn't taken the steps they did, it is very possible their quick action prevented a tragedy. Guns in the hands of individuals subject to a protective order is a recipe for disaster," Warner said.
