HERRIMAN — A man who didn't want his wife to go to church Sunday ended up in the hospital with a serious head injury.
The 37-year-old man and his 30-year-old wife had been arguing in their Herriman home before the woman tried to leave for church in her car, said Salt Lake County Sheriff's Sgt. Duane Jensen. The man followed her out to the car, reached through the window, opened the door and pulled his wife's hair in an attempt to prevent her from leaving.
Jensen said the woman put the car in reverse and stepped on the accelerator in an attempt to get away. In the process, the man was thrown to the ground and hit his head. He was air-lifted to the hospital and was in serious-to-critical condition Sunday night, Jensen said.
Jensen said it was not immediately known why the man did not want his wife to go to church. He said it is not likely charges will be filed against the woman.
"It was either self-defense or purely an accident," Jensen said. "She was just trying to get away from him."
The incident occurred about 2:30 p.m. in the 13600 block of Breeanne Place (6830 West).
