TAYLORSVILLE — Investigators were trying to determine the cause of a two-alarm fire that severely damaged an apartment at 4639 S. Sunstone Road (655 West) Sunday afternoon.

Capt. Marlon Jones of the Unified Fire Authority said no one was home at the time and no one was hurt when the fire began in the main-floor apartment unit about 2:45 p.m. The other five units in the apartment building and three neighboring apartment buildings were evacuated, he said.

The fire was contained to the downstairs apartment. No damage estimate was available Sunday.

"That unit can be rebuilt," Jones said. "The apartment is severely damaged, but structurally the building seems to be intact. They are going to have to fix it, but this is not going to condemn the whole building."

The blaze was extinguished quickly, Jones said. Crews from the Unified Fire Authority, Murray and South Salt Lake combined to fight the blaze.
