Obituary: Verda Hoecherl

Verda Hoecherl 1933 ~ 2005 Verda Elaine Smith Hoecherl, age 72, passed away peacefully in the company of her family November 14, 2005. Born May 3, 1933 in Thornton, Idaho, daughter of George Ernest and Hilda Marguerite Nelson Smith. Married George Ramon Hoecherl November 29, 1947 and they have been sweethearts for 58 years. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple November 30, 1959. She worked tirelessly for 31 years with mentally and physically challenged youth. She was given the opportunity to form the Kearns Regional Exceptional Mutual for all of her kids who were too old for Primary. She played such an important role in the lives of all of these special young people who needed her. She raised dozens of children in her home. She was a proud mother of five children: Terry (Valerie), Kirk (Sally), Debi Ellis, Troy (Pam), Mindy (Patrick) Jones; grandmother of 28; great-grandmother of 33. She has four brothers and two sisters living. Preceded in death by her son, Kirk; grandson, Cody; brother-in-law, Larry, her surrogate son. Funeral services will be held Thursday, 12:00 noon at the Meadowview Ward, 4575 West 5415 South. A viewing will be held Wednesday, 6-8 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road and Thursday at the church, 10:30-11:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment, Murray City Cemetery.
