Ruth C. Thomas "Grandma Ruth" Ruth May Clegg Thomas passed away November 14, 2005 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was born on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24th, 1917 in Magna, Utah. She was the oldest of five children born to Stella May Hick and Alfred Clegg. Ruth's great grandmother was a member of the Martin Handcart Company. She came from hardy pioneer stock and displayed these characteristics throughout her life. She graduated from Cyprus High School and loved it when the "C" was lit on the Oquirrh Mountains for special events. She graduated from the Excelsior Beauty College and ran her own beauty shop located in back of her parent's home for many years. She married her high school sweetheart, Dixon, on Aug. 1st 1936 at the City & County Bldg. Ruth was a member of the LDS Church where she held many positions including Primary President, MIA President and Jr. Sunday School Teacher in the Pleasant Green 1st Ward. She lived at the same home for 47 years until the death of her husband. She then moved across the street from her daughter and son-in-law and lived there for the next 17 years. She loved to go to her club of lifelong friends for over 50 years. She also bowled in several leagues at The Copper Club, Rancho and Delton Lanes with her husband. She worked at The Arctic Circle in Magna for 16 years for her good friend, Helen Gust and she still thought their cheeseburgers were the best in town. Ruth leaves behind her only daughter, Geraldine "Jeri" Gust and her husband, Johnny; her grandson, Cory (Lisa); granddaughter, Trisha (Ted) Christensen; her great grandchildren whom she dearly loved: Nathan, Natalie, Brianna, Brady & Brook; also her brothers, Raymond (Sandra), Rusell (Bertha) Clegg; sister, Betty Eyre; and sister-in-laws, Julia Clegg & Beth Turpin. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and brother, Earl Clegg; and in-laws Erroll Wana & Allen Thomas. The last four years of her life she had many wonderful caregivers: Magda, Carmen, and Rina, who took such great care of her in her home and The Highland Care Center and Applegate Hospice. Funeral services will be held 12 noon Thursday, November 17, 2005 in the Magna Central Stake Center, 8181 West 3320 South. Friends may call both Wednesday 6-8 p.m. and Thursday 11-11:45 a.m. at the church. Interment: Valley View Memorial Park. Directors: Peel Funeral Home.
