Obituary: Charles Keith Hanson

Charles Keith Hanson 1906 ~ 2005 Charles Keith Hanson died peacefully on Thursday, November 10, 2005, at Brighton Gardens Nursing Home in Salt Lake City from complications related to old age. Charles, better known as Keith, was born August 19, 1906 in Payson, Utah, the son of Charles G. and La Crish Vilate Hanson. He married his only sweetheart, Helen W. Larsen, on July 1, 1930. She preceded him in death on June 1, 2000 after nearly 70 years of marriage. After having survived some five years of sporadic employment during the Great Depression in the early 1930's, Keith finally found regular employment at Kennecott Copper Company. There he worked for a total of seventeen years. But, based on his Great Depression experience, Keith was always striving to become independent of any employer. Towards that end Keith acquired two small farms in Utah County which he felt would enable him and his family to survive no matter the employment conditions or whims of any employer. He also became involved in several activities aside from his regular employment. These activities included the acquisition of a Doctorate Degree in Metallurgy from the University of Utah in June 1960 at the age of 54. In addition, he along with his brother Burness and sister Gertrude, designed and developed two small subdivisions in the northwest part of Salt Lake City known as Hanson Subdivision 1 and 2. Keith also was a lover of the outdoors and became an expert in fly tying and fly fishing. Keith was preceded in death by six brothers, Arthur, (at the age of one month), Donald, Glen, Burness, Gerald, and Rulon, and two sisters, Gertrude and Dorotha. Keith is survived by one sister, LaVerl H. Kapoloski Reece of Salt Lake City, and several nieces and nephews who will greatly miss him. Services will be Thursday, November 17, 2005, 12 noon, at the Walker Mortuary, 587 South 100 West, Payson, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.
