A man who allegedly threatened to kill his estranged wife was arrested Sunday night by Salt Lake County sheriff's deputies who also seized more than two dozen handguns and rifles.

The 51-year-old man had been living with his daughter and her husband in Bluffdale, Salt Lake County Sheriff's Sgt. Paul Jaroscak said. His wife filed for divorce in September, and since then he reportedly has made threats "to go back to get her," he said.

The father and daughter got into an argument over ice cream Sunday night, and the incident escalated to the point the daughter told her father to leave, Jaroscak said.

The man then threatened the daughter's mother, Jaroscak said.

Deputies were called to the house about 10:15 p.m. The father had already left, but while investigators were there the man returned carrying two rifles.

Deputies persuaded the man to put down the rifles. While searching him they found two rounds of ammunition in his pocket, a loaded revolver on the front seat of his vehicle and more ammunition, Jaroscak said.

Another search of the vehicle and the house where the man was staying turned up 26 more rifles, pistols and shotguns.

The man was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of misdemeanor charges of making terroristic threats, having a loaded weapon in a vehicle and disorderly conduct.
