Pine, a restaurant featuring "new American" cuisine, recently opened at 4760 S. 900 East (formerly the site of Oceans). Owner is Greg Neville, chef/owner of Lugano. Named for the distinctive pines on the property, the restaurant offers lunch and dinner daily as well as Sunday brunch. The multilevel restaurant offers a sleek, contemporary atmosphere with copper-glazed concrete floors, iridescent aqua wall tiles and a Venetian plaster pass-through fireplace.

Dishes include spare ribs smoked over apple wood and served with buttermilk mashed potatoes; grilled 21-day-aged Angus culotte steak; and crab cakes with grilled corn and bay shrimp. Appetizers are $4-$11; entree salads, sandwiches and burgers are $4-$12; and dinner entrees are $9-$19. All dishes, sauces and desserts are made in-house.

Neville was an executive chef at Gastronomy Inc. and at Il Fornaio in California before opening Lugano is 2000.

Log Haven in Millcreek Canyon is celebrating its 11th anniversary today and Thursday with a special three-course "discovery" meal, featuring pear and pecan salad, prime rib au jus and huckleberry cron to the turkey donation, $10 bags filled with groceries can be bought and donated to the Utah Food Bank at all Harmons locations. Last year, the "Gift for a Gift" program provided 3,700 families with turkeys for Thanksgiving dinner.

McDonald's is raising money for the Ronald McDonald House programs throughout November. Customers can buy a "Give A Hand" for $1 and write their name on it as a donor. All those who donate can get a free download of Destiny's Child's new song, "Stand Up for Love," the official World Children's Day anthem.

Jamba Juice is selling "jambacards" for the holiday season. They are reloadable gift cards that can be filled with any amount from $5 to $500. The gift card is available at 14 of 15 Jamba Juice stores in Utah (the Brigham Young University campus store does not accept them). New on the menu this season is Orange Cherry Cheer, made with cherries, soy milk, orange juice, frozen yogurt and orange sherbet. It provides two servings of fruit and is an excellent source of protein, calcium and vitamin C.

Burger King Corp. is selling "Star Wars" digital hologram watches for $1.99 with the purchase of a Value Meal. Also as part of its "Star Wars" promotion, Kids Meals will feature one of 17 "Star Wars"-themed toys through the first week in December.

The toys are replicas of memorable characters such as Anakin Skywalker and Yoda, as well as Cosmic Cruiser vehicles.
