Obituary: Marion Streator Broomhead

Marion Streator Broomhead Centenarian 1905-2005 Beloved Dad, Grandpa, Great-Grandpa, and friend to all was reunited with his beloved wife, after 18 years of separation, Nov. 13, 2005. He was born April 15, 1905, in Riverside, Utah, to Eliza Ellen Gleason and William Parley Broomhead. He moved with his family to Murray, Utah where he attended and graduated from Murray High School. He met his sweetheart, Thelma Yates in Salt Lake and married her November 6, 1926. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, he served as a counselor to Bishop Bigler in the old Wandamere Ward, Grant Stake, as well as in the Young Men's and the ward Seventies presidencies. He was an electrician, working many years for Vance Electric where he became the company foreman. Later he formed his own small company with Bob Jesse. He used these and other skills to help many people, especially widows and others in need. His advice and help was constantly sought after. He was devoted to his beloved sweetheart and tenderly cared for her during many years of illness and in their home for eight years when she was afflicted with Alzheimer's disease. His ready wit, optimism and friendliness endeared him to all who even became casually acquainted with him, serving well even when his ability to hear conversation became extremely limited. Everyone who came in contact with him loved him. A great lover of poetry, he had a large memorized repertoire and delighted in reciting and sharing it, uplifting a small poetry group in his last weeks of life. Marion is survived by daughter, Darlene and husband, T. Bud Benard, son, Gordon and wife Grace Broomhead, 12 grandchildren, 59 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife Thelma, son Keith, his parents and two brothers. The family would like to express thanks to the staff and friends of the Heritage Place and the LDS branch there.
