Thank you for your insightful article "Deeper in Debt" about payday loans. I have been concerned about how their three-digit interest rates are affecting the working poor.
Now I have three more concerns: Does being the lobbyist and/or lawmaker (like those interviewed) affect one's senses and judgment concerning these loan businesses? Does a person have to be attacked by a (loan) shark himself to feel the pain of others? And whatever happened to the belief that lawmakers have the good of their constituents at heart?
I challenge the upcoming legislative session to enact much-needed laws to control these payday loan sharks. In the meantime, let's empower our schools to educate our children against these businesses.
