A Murray couple was killed when their vehicle was hit and burst into flames on I-15 late Thursday night.
Doug Stoddard, 53, and Kim Stoddard, 50.
The couple was parked on the side of the freeway at about 11:20 p.m. when a 32-year-old, who was reportedly driving recklessly, crashed into their vehicle and pushed them nearly 75 feet until the gas tank ignited, said Utah Highway Patrol trooper Jeff Nigbur.
The Stoddards were killed instantly, and the driver of the other vehicle was taken to the hospital in poor condition, but he is expected to live.
The cause of the crash, Nigbur said, is still under investigation. It is unknown whether drugs or alcohol was a factor or whether the surviving driver will be charged. Police say he is still not coherent enough to cooperate for an interview.
