EAGLE MOUNTAIN — A 15-year-old boy was flown by medical helicopter to Primary Children's Medical Center after being shot in the back during target practice Friday afternoon. Police believe the shooting was an accident.
"We're looking into it right now just to rule out that anything suspicious happened," said Utah County Sheriff's Sgt. Spencer Cannon. "It doesn't look like there's any reason to suspect that anything suspicious happened."
The victim was target shooting in a remote spot in the Meadow Ranches area of Eagle Mountain with two other young boys when he was shot in the back with a .22-caliber rifle.
Cannon said he didn't know how the accident happened or from what range the boy was hit, but he did say the bullet appeared to have gone through cleanly, and the boy should recover.
"It doesn't appear as if the injury will be life-threatening," he said.
