CEDAR CITY — Adrian Conway rushed for 115 yards and two touchdowns to lead Weber State to a 27-10 win over Southern Utah on Saturday.
The victory gave Weber State (6-5, 4-3 Big Sky) a winning season after the Wildcats went 1-10 last year. It was also Weber State's second win in its last five games against rival Southern Utah (1-9, 1-4 Great West).
John Collins set up the decisive touchdown with just under four minutes remaining when he slapped the ball away from Southern Utah punter Brandon Perkins and recovered at the Thunderbird 31-yard line.
Four plays later, Conway scored on a 9-yard touchdown run with 2:38 left that gave the Wildcats a 20-10 lead.
After the Thunderbirds gave the ball up on downs at their own 6-yard line on the ensuing possession, Sione Havili sealed the victory on 1-yard touchdown run with 45 seconds to play.
Southern Utah trailed 10-3 at the half and 13-3 after three quarters, but Zac Connors rallied the Thunderbirds with a 15-yard touchdown pass to Jerome Eason early in the fourth quarter.
Joe Johnson kicked field goals of 42 and 32 yards for Weber State, while Perkins had a 47-yarder for the Thunderbirds.
