Advocate unity, not diversity

The article titled "5 take home U. Diversity Awards" (Nov. 14) prompts this question: Why are there diversity awards? They could have been titled education or humanitarian awards just as easily.

When are we going to stop promoting diversity and start advocating unity? After all, this is what has made our country so great. One only has to look at Europe and the Balkans to see that diversity has not been very successful.
