Utah report card

GRADE A

Offense

Brett Ratliff looked like a seasoned veteran in his first-ever Div. I start, leading the team to 491 yards of total offense and five touchdowns. Quinton Ganther picked up most of his 131 yards rushing in the first half. Best thing — no turnovers.

GRADE A-

Defense

Played almost flawlessly in the first half but had some rough spots in the second half when the Cougar offense got rolling. Casey Evans' stripping the ball from Fahu Tahi was huge in the second quarter.

GRADE C

Special teams

The weak link for the Utes on Saturday. Dan Beardall made a pair of field goals, but he also missed a pair — including one on the final play of regulation. Utah's six punts, including two rugby-style punts by Eric Weddle, only averaged 31.7 yards.

GRADE A

Overall

U. coach Kyle Whittingham called it the "sweetest victory" he'd ever been a part of. Few gave the Utes a chance with their quarterback and top receiver out with injuries. The team got off to a fast start and this time didn't give it away in the fourth quarter.
