Obituary: Earl Powell Duffin

Earl Powell Duffin 1924 ~ 2005 Earl Powell Duffin, 81, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away November 16, 2005. He was born July 23, 1924 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Lazell and Laura Powell Duffin. Earl married Laurel E. Johnson in Camp LeJuene, North Carolina on July 1, 1945. They later divorced. He married Lucille Simonson May 22, 1966; later divorced. Earl married Joyce Miller Dumont Duffin in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on November 22, 1972. Earl graduated from Davis High School. Earl served four years in the United States Marine Corps during World War II where he participated in the battle of Midway and served six months on Guadal Canal. He was a member of the American Legion. He was a graduate of the Utah Technical College and for many years he owned and operated Duffin Welding Company in Bountiful and later in South Jordan, Utah. He was an active member of the Bountiful Lions Club for 20 years. He served as Scout Master for 20 years in Bountiful and South Jordan and as a Sunday School Teacher for the youth. He was a faithful member of the LDS Church. Survivors: wife, Joyce, South Jordan; children, Earl P. Duffin Jr., Garden City, Utah; Jeffery Duffin, Marysville, California; Michael Duffin (Karla), Centerville; Christy Lee Hernandes, Mission, Texas; Rick Z. Dumont (Shauna), Riverton; JoLen VanSleeuwen (Paul), Riverton; Larry Dumont, Rupert, Idaho; Kelly Dumont (Connie), Riverton; 24 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; sisters, Maurine Green, Mary Jo Broom, both Salt Lake City; Norma Hagethorn, Mesquite, Texas; brother, Dick Duffin, Thousand Oaks, California; brother-in-law, L. Ned Miller. Preceded in death by brother, Gordon Duffin; sister, Joyce Wardle. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 21, 2005 at 11 a.m. in the River Ridge 8th Ward, 10200 South 1300 West (adjacent to the Jordan River LDS Temple) Friends may call at Goff Mortuary 8090 So. State Sunday 6-8 p.m. or Monday at the church from 9:45-10:45 a.m. Interment, South Jordan City Cemetery.
