Obituary: Marvin Lester Allgood

Marvin Lester Allgood 1915 ~ 2005 LAYTON - Marvin Lester Allgood, 90, beloved husband, father, grandfather passed away Friday, November 18, 2005 at his home surrounded by his family. Marvin was born May 23, 1915 in Salt Lake City, Utah the son of Lester Rees and Arva Mitchell Allgood. He grew up in Grand Junction, CO and has resided in Layton since 1943. Marvin married Hollis Marie Day of Moab, UT June 28, 1937 in Castle Rock, Colorado. He was sealed to his wife and nine children February 10, 2005 in the Bountiful Utah Temple. At the age of 14 Dad lost his left arm but he never let that be a disability of any kind. He loved sports and was an excellent tennis player, golfer, as well as archer. Marvin loved hunting, fishing, skiing, and ice skating. His favorite activities included camping, hunting, and fishing with his family. He was also an artist and loved photography. Marvin was skilled in all that he did and spent countless hours teaching family, friends, and strangers his skills. He was a faithful member of the LDS Church. Marvin organized the Civil Air Patrol at Hill AFB and was its first commander. He worked for 36 years as a civilian procurement officer at Hill AFB. Surviving are his wife, Hollis; four sons, Marvin Dee (Judith), Gambrills, MD, H. Bruce (Karen), Bountiful, Thomas Wayne (Dixie H.), Layton, Robert D. (Doris R.) Riverdale; three daughters, Donna M. (Clark) Williamson, Layton, Betty Joan (Allen) Kingsbury, Bountiful, Barbara (Ray Jr.) Snow, St. George; 28 grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren; and one great great-grandchild. Preceded in death by his sons, Larry Grant Allgood, Jerry Neldon Allgood; two brothers; one sister; one grandson; and two great-grand-children. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 21, 2005, 2 p.m. at the Layton LDS Rosewood Ward, 380 South Fairfield. Friends and family may call Sunday from 6-8 p.m. at Lindquist's Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road and Monday one hour prior to services at the church. Interment, Grand Valley Cemetery, 1300 Millcreek Dr., Moab, Utah, Tuesday, November 22, 2005 at 1 p.m. Email condolences to the family at llm@lindquistmortuary.com
