WEST JORDAN — Police on Sunday released the names of the victim and the man alleged to be the killer in a domestic violence incident that had tragic consequences late Saturday.
Killed was: Gerald Fain Jr., 19, West Jordan.
The teenager's 40-year-old father, Gerald Fain Sr., was arrested and charged with one count of homicide, a first-degree felony, said West Jordan Police Capt. Gary Cox.
Police responded to the family's home in the 6900 South block of Flamingo Way (1310 West) late Saturday after the father allegedly stabbed his son. Cox said the two were involved in an argument in the kitchen when the father picked up a knife and stabbed his son.
Police and rescue personnel arrived within several minutes of receiving the 911 call, but the young man was already dead when they arrived.
Three other family members were in the home at the time. The family had just moved to West Jordan from Kearns about two months ago, Cox said.
An autopsy will be conducted by the state medical examiner's office. There was no immediate indication that drugs or alcohol were involved in the incident, but the investigation is continuing, Cox said.
