Boston College runs by Shawnee St.

Craig Smith had 14 points and 13 rebounds Sunday and then sat out the last seven minutes of No. 11 Boston College's 70-51 victory over Shawnee State in Boston.

Jared Dudley added 18 points and nine rebounds, and Sean Marshall had 16 and nine for BC (2-0). Terrence Davison and Frank Hall each had 10 points for NAIA Division II Shawnee State (3-3).

The game was scheduled as the first round of the Las Vegas Holiday Invitational but played on Boston College's campus. A sparse crowd watched Shawnee State stay close for 10 minutes before the Eagles pulled away to remain unbeaten in their inaugural Atlantic Coast Conference season.

NO. 15 ALABAMA 105, ALABAMA ST. 68: At Tuscaloosa, Ala. Freshman Richard Hendrix scored 22 points and had 14 rebounds as Alabama rebounded from its loss to Memphis in the second round of the preseason NIT.

NO. 17 ILLINOIS 71, TEXAS-PAN AMERICAN 59: At Champaign, Ill., Dee Brown scored 20 points as Illinois bounced back from a poor-shooting first half. Brown hit five 3-pointers for the Illini (2-0), who trailed by 10 points with 8:19 to go in the first half before their shots started to fall.

NO. 25 IOWA ST. 101, MOUNTAIN ST. 82: At Ames, Iowa, Curtis Stinson scored a career-high 35 points in the Cyclones' season opener.

Stinson hit 15 of 24 shots and had seven assists for the Cyclones, who surpassed 100 points for the first time since Jan. 31, 2001, when they lost to Missouri 112-109 in four overtimes. Freshman Shawn Taggart scored 16 points and Will Blalock and Rashon Clark added 13 apiece for Iowa State.Mountain State, the top-ranked NAIA team in the country, had its first loss after opening the season with eight consecutive wins. Rodney Epperson led five Cougars in double figures with 24 points.
