Help prevent teen suicide

I endorse the effort by the state to join with the Jason Foundation to bring a teen suicide prevention program to the schools. Unfortunately, this comes too late for our 17-year-old son, Blake, who took his life three weeks ago. If this program can help youths understand that suicide is not a viable option, and if it can help them understand that help is available, then it is worthy of our support.

We owe a great deal of thanks to the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Department, especially detective Chad Reyes. The youths — both our LDS ward as well as Blake's friends from high school — have been incredible.

My plea to everyone is that if you feel discouraged or depressed, please talk to someone.
