Police say a gang member was arrested late Monday after he was caught with drugs and possibly intended to sell them.
The Salt Lake Metro Gang Unit along with a SWAT team from Salt Lake police served a search warrant at the house near 200 N. Redwood about 11 p.m.
Inside, investigators found a small amount of drugs and packaging material, said Gang Unit Lt. Del Craig. Some of the drugs were found near the play area and clothes of the two children, ages 2 and 4, who also lived there, he said.
The 21-year-old man was arrested and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of drug-related charges. Craig said investigators were also looking into whether the man had already been deported once and re-entered the country illegally.
The Division of Child and Family Services was called to conduct an investigation, but Craig said the children initially appeared to be in good health. The children were not taken into state protective custody, he said.
