Man flown to hospital after motorcycle crash

AMERICAN FORK — A man was airlifted to the hospital in critical condition after an accident on a motorcycle Wednesday night.

Ryan Allen, 23, of Sandy, was riding a motorcycle when it collided with a pickup truck shortly before 7 p.m., Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Greg Willmore said.

Allen was travelling north on I-15 near the 500 East exit in a construction zone. Vehicles ahead had slowed or stopped, and Allen was unable to stop. The motorcycle crashed into the back of the truck, Willmore said.

Allen was transported by ambulance to American Fork Hospital. From there, he was transported by medical helicopter to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo. No one in the truck was injured, Willmore said. Northbound I-15 was closed for about 25 minutes for accident investigation and cleanup. Drivers were diverted off the freeway at 500 East in American Fork, forcing them to use city streets to bypass the accident scene, Willmore said.
