Police chase wanted man from sheriff's parking lot

SANTA ROSA, Calif. (AP) — Jerry Lee Williams may have been wanted by authorities, but he certainly wasn't hiding from the long arm of the law.

Williams, who was being sought on two no-bail warrants, was spotted Tuesday in the parking lot of the Sonoma County Sheriff's Department. Lt. Bruce Rochester said Williams was sitting in a car drinking beer and listening to music.

Williams, 32, then led deputies on a chase, first in his car and then on foot, that ended 10 minutes later outside a hospital several blocks away from the Sheriff's Department.

"Nobody knows what he was trying to do," Rochester said. "We're all stumped."

Williams was wanted for assault with a deadly weapon and spousal abuse. He was booked into the Sonoma County jail on those charges, as well as resisting arrest.
