CALGARY, Canada— Salt Lake native Chris Hedquist won his fifth gold medal in less than two weeks Friday, capping off his winning streak with a first place finish in skeleton at the final America's Cup race.
Hedquist's golden streak began on Nov. 12 with a gold medal win in the opening Europa Cup race of the 2005-06 season at Igls, Austria. The race, held in Igls, Austria, marked the second time in less than one year that Hedquist has topped the podium in Igls. At the World University Games last January, he took home the gold medal for the United States on the same track.
Two days after returning to the United States, Hedquist competed in consecutive America's Cup races on his home track in Park City, winning both races on Nov. 16 and 17.
"It's a terrific feeling to start out the season with strong results like I have had the past two weeks," Hedquist said.
"These have been great races with talented competitors. They have given me even more motivation to go out and put down solid results for the remainder of the season."
