Obituary: Glen Giles Smith

Glen Giles Smith 1923 ~ 2005 WEST BOUNTIFUL - Glen Giles Smith passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 19, 2005. He was born May 15, 1923 to Henry Giles and Dora Hadley Smith in Farmington, Utah. He met and married the love of his life, Merle Hancock on October 24, 1942 and they enjoyed 63 years together. Glen's passion in life was always his family. He also enjoyed playing and watching all sports and working with horses. Following his service in the Marines, the family bought a 240 acre ranch in New Plymouth, Idaho, which Glen ran until 1976, when they sold the ranch and moved back to Utah to be closer to their family. Glen drove a school bus for the Davis County School District for 12 years before retiring. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served many years as Church Regional Athletic Director for parts of Idaho and Oregon. Most recently he served as Assistant High Priest Group Leader and as ward temple name extractor. He is survived by his wife; children (Susan), Ilene (Myron) Nelson, Dennis (Deby), Brenda (Greg) Stevens, Randy (Kathy); 16 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren which he greatly enjoyed; brother Harry, sisters Dorene and Joyce. Preceded in death by son Dee, grandson Curt Nelson, great-granddaughter Olivia Smith, parents, and brothers Don and Dean. Funeral services will be held Friday, November 25, 2005 at 11 a.m. in the West Bountiful 4th Ward Chapel at 1930 North 600 West, West Bountiful, Utah. A viewing will be held Thursday, November 24, 2005 from 6 - 8 p.m. at the Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main, and Friday morning from 9:30 -10:30 a.m. at the church prior to services.
