Katherine Elizabeth Galpin Carman "Kate and Dick" Our precious mother, Katherine Elizabeth Galpin Carman, died peacefully of natural causes on Monday, October 31, 2005. Kate grew up in Salt Lake City, and graduated from West High School. She became part of the "gang" early in her life and spent the next 60 years enjoying the companionship of these treasured friends. Mom was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and as a young mother served in Primary and MIA. Mom married Richard Remington Carman on October 10, 1932. Together with their son Richard they built a successful business. Kate and Dick raised a loving and close family. They were married for 55 years before dad was taken in a sudden accident in February 1988. Family was mom's first and most profound love. She enjoyed nothing more than spending holidays, especially Christmas, with her children, grandchildren, and now many great- grandchildren. She always occupied the seat of honor at any gathering so she could be in the middle of the action. Our beautiful mother was always feisty, playful, and had a wonderful sense of humor. She taught us to always laugh our way out of adversity. Kate is survived by her children: Richard (Mary) Carman, Ronald (Nancy) Carman, David (Betty) Carman, Kay (Pete) Robinson, Joan Carman, 15 precious grandchildren, and 31 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her dear sisters Hazel (Mel) Jeffs, and Emily (Lowell) Johnson and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her cherished husband Dick, one grandson, two great-grandsons, one great-granddaughter, and her brothers Hubert Galpin and John Galpin. The family would like to express their thanks and appreciation to the devoted staff at Brighton Gardens. They cared for our mother with great tenderness and compassion, for which we will always be grateful. Funeral services will be held Friday, November 4, 2005, 12 noon, at the Poplar Grove Ward, 1145 W. 5th South, Salt Lake City. Friends may call Thursday 6-8 p.m. at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple, and Friday at the ward 10:45-11:45 a.m. Interment Salt Lake City Cemetery.
