Obituary: Wilfred Burrell

Wilfred Burrell 1914 ~ 2005 Wilfred Burrell was born on Dec 20, 1914 in Norwich England. He was the 6th child born to Alfred and Emma Louisa Burrell. The family joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in England and was active in the Norwich Branch. One at a time, the older children: Alfred Jr., Herbert, Gladys and Arthur immigrated to Utah. In 1937, when Alfred Sr. retired from the railroad, Wilfred, his sister Doris and his parents followed the older brothers and sisters to Utah where they could be sealed as a family in the temple. Wilfred had apprenticed as a watchmaker in England. Shortly after arriving in Utah he established Burrell Jewelry on 12 West 3rd South in Salt Lake. The business was a success and provided an income for his family for 46 years. On April 11, 1941 he married Kathryn Hardy in the Salt Lake Temple; they became a wonderful team. She was the bookkeeper for the business. They worked together to establish a wonderful home and raise five children Kaylene Peterson (Byron), W. Craig Burrell (Gail), Charles Alfred Burrell, Constance Sawatzki (Richard) and Kent Donald Burrell (Teresa) They had 26 grandchildren, and the week before he died their 44th great-grandchild was born. Wilfred and Kathryn have always had a wonderful relationship which has been an example of a celestial Marriage for their family and all who have come to know them. Wilfred honored his priesthood and held many church callings. Many will remember his service as the Cottonwood 3rd ward clerk. He served in this calling for many years under three different bishops. Wilfred died at his home on October 31, 2005. A viewing will be held on November 5, 2005 at 10 a.m. The funeral services will be conducted immediately after the viewing at 12 noon. Both the viewing and the funeral will be held at the Cottonwood 8th Chapel, 6301 So. 2300 E. Special thanks to the staff and nurses of Inspiration Hospice for their kindness and loving care.
