Salt Lake County pets of the week

Hershey is a gorgeous 6-month-old male Siamese kitten who seems to have a purr that never quits. He loves people and doesn't appear bothered by other cats. He's extremely beautiful, with sky-blue eyes and dark chocolate markings on his face, feet and tail.

Speaking of chocolate, this charming chocolate Lab is Cadbury, a fabulous 4-year-old female who is friendly and goofy and loves people. She's a bit on the chubby side, so she could use an extra walk or two and a careful diet in her new home. She loves to play and is eager to please and receive attention from her human friends.

Please remind friends and family to check the shelters first when they're looking for a new furry friend for the family. Shelters take in an enormous number of purebred and mixed-breed dogs and cats, many of whom are already trained and socialized. If more people chose to give a second chance to a great shelter pet, far fewer would die without a home. There is a huge difference between adopting versus buying from a breeder or pet store, as one choice saves a life and the other adds to the demand for more pets. Please choose to reduce euthanasia by giving available homes to our homeless animals. Visit Hershey and Cadbury and hundreds of others at Salt Lake County Animal Services, 511 W. 3900 South, or call 269-7499. And view our pets virtually at www.slcoanimalservices.org.
