Players to watch: BYU is 4-0 this season when Curtis Brown rushes for more than 100 yards and 0-4 when he doesn't. UNLV tight end Greg Estandia has caught 38 passes for 444 yards and five TDs. Rebel running back Erick Jackson has rolled up 524 yards on 132 attempts.
BYU will win if . . . the offense both runs and passes effectively, as it did last week, and scores more than 35 points.
UNLV will win if . . . the Rebel defense forces BYU turnovers and the offense victimizes the Cougars' struggling secondary.
Extra points: This game is a matchup between two rookie head coaches. BYU's Bronco Mendenhall was the Cougars' defensive coordinator before being hired to oversee the program this past December. UNLV's Mike Sanford served as Utah's offensive coordinator for two seasons before being lured to Las Vegas . . . Former UNLV offensive line coach Robert Anae (1997-98) is in his first season as offensive coordinator for BYU while safeties coach Barry Lamb was an assistant at UNLV from 1981-1985 . . .
