GRADE A-

Offense

Not quite the same gaudy offensive stats as the previous week — only 224 yards rushing, only 267 yards passing and only seven touchdowns. BYU overcame a slow start early when UNLV jammed the running game and the Cougars' passing wasn't quite clicking.

GRADE A-

Defense

BYU collected three picks and five sacks while holding UNLV to 2 yards rushing, 4-of-15 third-down conversions, 1-of-4 on fourth downs and a sole sustained scoring drive. The Rebels did pass for 329 yards, but the Cougars finally solved the short, side passes that gave them fits early.

The McLaughlins kicked well — Jared with two field goals (a long of 45) and deep kickoffs, and Derek with two punts of 50-plus yards to negate a 28-yarder. The beefed-up special teams fared well on most counts, except for a couple of penalties and a second blocked punt in as many games.

GRADE A-

Overall

A complete team success — as evidence, try to pick out just one or two Cougars who could carry the brunt of the credit in the 55-14 victory. No fourth-quarter comeback allowed, no meltdown on pass defense, no giving up when the offense sputtered early.
