SOUTH SALT LAKE — Police say a case of mistaken identity led to the stabbing of a restaurant patron by two restaurant employees.
A husband and wife were eating diner at the La Puente restaurant at 3434 S. State just after 1 p.m. Saturday when a male worker from the kitchen came to their table and confronted the husband, calling him by a different name, said South Salt Lake Police Sgt. Jack Carruth.
After the man denied being the person the employee thought he was, the husband and wife tried to leave the restaurant, only to be confronted outside by two restaurant employees, Carruth said. One of the employees stabbed the husband in the right buttock with a 6-inch meat-carving knife.
Police later located the two employees at a Taylorsville apartment. They were booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on suspicion of aggravated assault.
Carruth said the husband was taken to a local hospital, where he received up to 10 stitches for his wound and was released.
