West Valley police have released the name of a 15-year-old suspect in the case of the stabbing death of Jeremiah Allred.
Angel Ortiz, Allred's former brother-in-law, was charged Friday in 3rd District Juvenile Court with first-degree felony murder in Allred's Oct. 28 death. A warrant has been issued for his arrest.
"We've been actively pursuing him for the past week but wanted to get the information out to the public and see if we can't locate him more quickly," said West Valley Police Sgt. Phil Quinlin.
Ortiz is described as 5 feet 5 inches tall, Hispanic, about 160 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. His last known address was in West Valley City.
The relationship of the two men is believed to be the primary motive for the killing, as Allred, 25, was attempting to discuss family matters with his estranged wife when the altercation began, Quinlin said. Ortiz was apparently at his sister's home when Allred showed up wanting to talk.
Allred, who suffered a single stab wound to his chest, was found dead in a carport near 3800 South and 4500 West, a few houses away from where the fight began.
Quinlin said police have not identified the instrument used to stab Allred but that several items were recovered from the house, including a bandana-wrapped knife and a shovel.
