NEW YORK — Petr Prucha beat Scott Clemmensen to end a sudden-death shootout, giving the New York Rangers a 3-2 victory over the New Jersey Devils on Saturday.

Brian Gionta, who scored twice in regulation, kept the Devils alive by beating Kevin Weekes with a goal in the third and final round. Sudden death became necessary when New York's Jaromir Jagr hit the post.

Michael Nylander also scored for the Rangers in the tiebreaker.

Prucha and Blair Betts scored in regulation to help New York sweep the home-and-home series. The Rangers, 3-0-1 against their area rivals, have three wins in a season against New Jersey for the first time since the Stanley Cup-winning year of 1993-94.

STARS 3, AVALANCHE 2: At Denver, Marty Turco stopped 29 shots in regulation and overtime and made two more saves in a shootout, helping Dallas end Colorado's four-game winning streak.

Sergei Zubov beat Avalanche goalie Peter Budaj to the glove side to open the first shootout in Dallas history, then Turco stopped Milan Hejduk, spinning around to block the shot with his back. Jussi Jokinen beat Budaj at the other end, and Turco secured Dallas' third win in eight games by nearly doing the splits to stop Alex Tanguay.

Mike Modano and Antti Miettinen scored in regulation for Dallas. Andrew Brunette and Steve Konowalchuk scored for Colorado.

WILD 3, SHARKS 1: At San Jose, Brian Rolston had his second career three-goal game to help Minnesota snap a four-game road losing streak. Dwayne Roloson made 35 saves for his first win in five games.

FLAMES 1, CANUCKS 0: At Calgary, Miikka Kiprusoff made 23 saves for his third shutout of the season and Marcus Nilson scored the lone goal in the Calgary Flames' 1-0 victory over Vancouver.

Kiprusoff has not allowed a goal in 99:01 and has given up only one in his last three games, all victories, to help the Flames improve to 7-7-2.

KINGS 3, PREDATORS 2: At Los Angeles, Pavol Demitra and Jeremy Roenick scored in a shootout, helping the Kings rally for a victory over Nashville.

Jason LaBarbera stopped Nashville's Simon Gamache and Marek Zidlicky in the Kings' first shootout under the NHL's new rules.

LaBarbera, who made 20 saves for his eighth victory of the season, also stopped David Legwand in a penalty shot with 31 seconds left in overtime.

Craig Conroy scored early in the third period and Tom Kostopoulos tied it for Los Angeles with 4:28 left in regulation. Jeremy Stevenson and Martin Erat had first-period goals for Nashville.

SENATORS 6, ISLANDERS 0: At Ottawa, Daniel Alfredsson scored his 13th and 14th goals of the season and also had an assist, and Dominik Hasek made 28 saves for his third shutout.

Alfredsson has seven goals and nine assists in his six-game scoring streak. The 40-year-old Hasek, in his first season with Ottawa, has 66 career shutouts.

Dany Heatley, Chris Neil, Martin Havlat and Brian Smolinski also scored to help the Senators improve to 11-2-0 with their third straight victory.

Heatley, who also had an assist, has points in all 13 games the Senators have played, tying him with Marian Hossa for the franchise record. Heatley, acquired from Atlanta during the offseason, has 11 goals and 13 assists this season.

HURRICANES 2, PANTHERS 0: At Raleigh, N.C., Rod Brind'Amour and Niclas Wallin scored third-period goals to help Carolina extend the best start in team history.

Eric Staal added an assist to extend his scoring streak to eight games for the Hurricanes, who improved to 7-0 at home and extended the team record for consecutive home wins. Martin Gerber finished with 27 saves to earn his second shutout this season.

Carolina improved to 10-2-1 with its seventh straight win — which tied the franchise record set in 1985 — and earned a point for the 10th straight game. The Hurricanes have outscored opponents 24-8 in the final period this season.

MAPLE LEAFS 5, LIGHTING 3: At Toronto, Mats Sundin had a goal and an assist in his first game since sustaining a serious eye injury, leading the Leafs past Tampa Bay.

Sundin fractured his left orbital bone when he was struck in the face by a puck in the season opener against Ottawa on Oct. 5. He returned to practice Wednesday, and wore a visor against Tampa Bay.

Jeff O'Neill, Darcy Tucker, Alexander Steen and Chad Kilger also scored for the Maple Leafs, and Ed Belfour made 33 saves. Dan Boyle and Vincent Lecavalier scored third-period goals for the Lightning, who lost their third straight.

CANADIENS 3, SABRES 2: At Montreal, Alex Kovalev scored twice, Richard Zednik had a goal and an assist, and Jose Theodore made 29 saves for the Habs.

Saku Koivu and Andrei Markov each had two assists for Eastern Conference-leading Montreal, which beat Buffalo for the second night in a row.

Montreal improved to 5-3-0 at the Bell Centre, and 11-3-1 overall. The Canadiens' 6-0-1 road mark following Friday's 3-2 win in Buffalo is the franchise's best road start since it began play in 1909, eight years prior to the NHL's formation.

J.P. Dumont and Paul Gaustaud scored for the Sabres.

BRUINS 6, PENGUINS 3: At Boston, Jiri Slegr scored two power-play goals in a 35-second span in the first period and Bruins teammate Patrice Bergeron had an end-to-end rush for a power-play goal in the second.

Joe Thornton added two goals, and Nick Boynton also scored for Boston. Mark Recchi scored two goals and Lasse Pirjeta added a goal for the Penguins.

Boston, which dominated the Penguins on the power play for the second time in two weeks, is 4-0-4 in its last eight games. The Bruins have 11 power-play goals at home this season, eight against Pittsburgh.

COYOTES 4, RED WINGS 1: At Detroit, Curtis Joseph made 36 saves for Phoenix in his first game in Detroit since leaving the Red Wings. Joseph played for Detroit from 2002-04.

Mike Leclerc, Zbynek Michalek and Mike Johnson scored power-play goals for Phoenix and Mike Comrie added a short-handed, empty-net goal with 12.8 seconds remaining.

Tomas Holmstrom scored his third goal in two games for the Red Wings (12-2-1).

FLYERS 4, THRASHERS 3: At Philadelphia, Simon Gagne had his second career hat trick and Peter Forsberg added a goal and two assists for the Flyers.

Gagne leads the NHL with 15 goals, and has scored five goals in his last three games. Forsberg leads the league with 21 assists.

Robert Esche made 28 saves and won his fourth straight game for the Flyers.

Marian Hossa, Peter Bondra and Serge Aubin scored for Atlanta.
