Why is it not surprising that Utah, which ranks at or near the top every year in families that can't afford food, is also one of only seven states that fully tax food? Is there a message?

House Speaker Curtis has a plan. Scrap food tax and increase all other sales taxes. Thereby Utah can move from the list of states that can't feed themselves to the list of states that can't clothe themselves. We can still maintain the current ratio wherein the poor pay almost twice the overall rate of state and local taxes as the rich, but look better doing it.
