Utah Utes season in review

Sept. 2

Utah 27, Arizona 24

Last week:

Arizona 52, UCLA 14

BOTTOM LINE: A week after upsetting Oregon State, the Wildcats (3-6) knocked off unbeaten UCLA. Washington visits Tucson on Saturday.

Sept. 10

Utah 31, Utah State 7

Last week:

Louisiana Tech 27, Utah State 17

BOTTOM LINE: Too much kindness. That's what cost the Aggies their sixth loss of the season. Turnovers are a concern as USU heads to Hawaii.

Sept. 15

TCU 23, Utah 20

Last week:

TCU 33, Colorado St. 6

BOTTOM LINE: The Horned Frogs (9-1) are hoppin' happy after clinching an outright MWC championship. They'll close things out at home against UNLV.

Sept. 22

Utah 38, Air Force 35

Last week:

Army 27, Air Force 24

BOTTOM LINE: Perhaps the academy could use a name change. How about Grounded Force? The Falcons (3-7) are idle till a trip to New Mexico on Nov. 19.

Oct. 1

North Carolina 31, Utah 17

Last week:

North Carolina 16, Boston College 14

BOTTOM LINE: Carolina (4-4) will take the momentum it gained by upsetting No. 19 Boston College into another ACC battle. This week it's Maryland.

Oct. 8

Colorado State 21, Utah 17

Last week:

TCU 33, Colorado St. 6

BOTTOM LINE: The Rams (5-4) played like Lambkins in last weekend's title tilt at TCU. They'll try to regroup at home against San Diego State.

Oct. 15

San Diego State 28, Utah 19

Last week:

San Diego St. bye

BOTTOM LINE: The unpredictable Aztecs (3-6) head to Colorado State this weekend after a bye week. The Aztecs have been reduced to the role of a spoiler.

Oct. 22

Utah 42, UNLV 32

Last week:

BYU 55, UNLV 14

BOTTOM LINE: Former Utah offensive coordinator Mike Sanford and the Rebels (2-7) are taking their lumps. The next loss is slated for Saturday at TCU.

Nov. 5

Utah 43, Wyoming 13

BOTTOM LINE: Utah's best game of the season sent Wyoming to its fourth consecutive setback. The Cowboys (4-5) are home to face BYU Saturday.

Nov. 12

New Mexico at Utah

4:30 p.m., Ch. 14

Last week:

New Mexico bye

BOTTOM LINE: The Lobos (5-4) visit Salt Lake City after a bye week. A loss to the Utes would make it awful difficult to earn a bowl invitation.

Nov. 19

Utah at BYU

TBA

Last week:

BYU 55, UNLV 14

BOTTOM LINE: The Cougars (5-4) head to chilly Wyoming on a roll. If they leave Laramie bowl eligible, another trip to Las Vegas could be in their future.
