OREM — A 28-year-old Orem man was transported to a hospital for treatment of injuries sustained during a Monday car accident and a possible drug overdose.
The man drove his car at 15-20 mph into a Dumpster at an apartment complex in an attempt to kill himself, according to an Orem Police Department statement.
The man survived but the force of the man's car pushed the trash bin into a parked car. Police say he fled when the parked car's owner discovered the damage.
Police found the man a couple blocks away, trying to hide.
He opened a medicine bottle and put a handful of pills into his mouth. An Orem police officer grabbed the man's throat before he could swallow them, according to the police statement.
The man told officers he had swallowed some before his throat was grabbed. Paramedics took the man to the hospital for medical and psychiatric help, the statement said.
Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
