Four pipe bombs were found Monday afternoon near the Salt Lake City landfill.

An employee of the Salt Lake County Water Reclamation Department was driving near 1300 South and 7200 West about 2:30 p.m. when he spotted the objects in the road.

Bomb technicians from the Salt Lake City Police Department and the Salt Lake City International Airport were called, said Salt Lake City police detective Robin Snyder.

A water cannon was used to disrupt the devices. Investigators said they appeared to be working pipe bombs and not fakes, Snyder said.

Investigators did not have any potential suspect information Tuesday and were not sure if the pipe bombs were simply discarded, dropped or if they were intended for a specific target.
