The McGillis School will hold an open house for the 2006-07 academic year on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the school, 668 S. 1300 East. All families interested in applying for admission in grades first through eighth are invited to attend.

The McGillis School offers students a broad liberal arts education with an inquiry-based approach that emphasizes critical thinking, collaboration and creative problem solving. The core subject areas — math, science, English, social studies, foreign languages and fine arts — are structured in differentiated activities that allow students to work at their own level of development.

Within small classes, students receive individual support in developing skills. Competency outside the core curriculum is gained through electives such as drama, photography, literary magazine, introduction to engineering and digital film production. McGillis students also conduct community projects and explore issues related to service, justice and tolerance.

There will be a second 2006-07 open house on Thursday, Jan. 19 at 7 p.m. at the school, which is located in a renovated historic building.
