I was hoping we had learned something from the Rwandan genocide of 1994. After the brutal slaughter of hundreds of thousands of innocent Rwandans, I was stunned that the United States and the rest of the world stood by and watched the carnage unfold without making any serious attempts to stop it. Surely the world community learned something from the tragedy in Rwanda, right?

Well, we're letting it happen again. This time it's taking place in the Darfur region of Sudan, where government forces are attempting to exterminate all non-Arabs in the region.

It is time for the U.N. Security Council to prove that it is a relevant organization. It is also time for the United States to accept the role of the International Criminal Court in dealing with atrocities such as the one in Sudan. It is time to find a solution to this problem.
