OGDEN — Ogden police think they may have solved a 2004 drug overdose death.

Harold Eugene Harmon has been charged with second-degree-felony manslaughter in 2nd District Court in connection with the death.

In August 2004, police investigated the death of a man who seemed to have overdosed on methadone, a legal drug heroin addicts can get to help kick their heroin habits.

The victim, Cheyenne Gordon, 33, didn't have a prescription for methadone, so police knew he got it from someone else, said Ogden Lt. Scott Sangberg.

Harmon, a legal methadone user, was a friend of Gordon, and police say Harmon's supplying methadone to Gordon is what eventually killed him.

Methadone users are required to sign a statement promising they will not give it to anyone else, Sangberg said — not just because it is addicting, but because it can be deadly.

Harmon, 55, was arrested this past week and booked into jail on $50,000 bail.

He also was charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a drug-free zone, a first-degree felony, and possession of drug paraphernalia within 1,000 feet of a drug-free zone, a class A misdemeanor.

A preliminary hearing was scheduled April 20 before Judge Ernie Jones.
