EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Jacque Vaughn of the New Jersey Nets broke a bone in his right foot early in the first quarter Saturday night against the Orlando Magic.
The seven-year veteran, who has started 34 games at shooting guard, was experiencing pain in his foot before the game but decided to play. He ran off the court after fracturing the fifth metatarsal two minutes into the first quarter and was replaced by Travis Best. The Nets said there was no timetable for his return.
Vaughn was averaging 5.3 points and 1.9 assists for New Jersey, which began the night in ninth place in the Eastern Conference, a half-game behind Philadelphia and a half-game ahead of Orlando.
The Magic were without Grant Hill, whose left shin contusion flared up during Friday night's loss at Washington. He was replaced in the starting lineup by Stacey Augmon.
CURRY MISSES ANOTHER GAME: Bulls center Eddy Curry was ruled out of his third straight game Saturday because of an irregular heartbeat.
Coach Scott Skiles said the 22-year-old player might rejoin the team next week when the Bulls start a three-game road trip Tuesday night in Miami.
"They're getting to a point where they feel like they got a handle on it," Skiles said Saturday after the team's shootaround. "He should be fine."
Curry underwent extensive testing Friday at a Chicago hospital to determine the severity of the condition. Skiles couldn't say if Curry would be put on medication to control the problem that first flared up last Monday during a game against Memphis when he scored 25 points.
The 6-foot-11 Curry, who made the jump from high school to the NBA four years ago, is the Bulls' leading scorer. Chicago had won eight straight going into Saturday night's home game against Charlotte.
LEWIS OUT INDEFINITELY: Rashard Lewis has a deep bone bruise in his right foot, sidelining the Seattle SuperSonics' All-Star forward indefinitely.
Team officials said Friday they'd know more about the injury after weekend tests.
"He had an MRI (Friday), and it showed a bone bruise and a bruise to the tendon," general manager Rick Sund said. "We're going to do a bone scan tomorrow and a CT scan Monday to get a little more information about how long he's going to be out."
Lewis, averaging 20.7 points and 5.5 rebounds, was hurt last Sunday night in a loss to Washington, when coach Nate McMillan said he "jammed it on the floor." Lewis continued to play, but the injury became too painful later in the week.
